Rue des Martyrs

Sacre Coeur, Paris, France, travel, church, Rue des MartyrsRue des Martyrs, Paris, France, travel, churchesToday was overcast and rainy in Paris but before the heavy rain, I walked the Rue des Martyrs in the 9th arrondissement.  I am too tired right now to write a lot but my trip today was due to impetus I received from reading a book titled: The Only Street in Paris: The Rue des Martyrs by Elaine Sciolino who happens to hail originally from our shared hometown of Buffalo/Niagara Falls.  I will let my photos taken today on that famous street, so named the legend goes, because St. Denis, the patron saint of Paris, supposedly carried his severed head under his arm, downhill on this street to his final resting place in what is now the Basilica St. Denis.  Ms. Sciolino has lived on this street for many years and has come to know it’s residents so well that she is able to blend history and her own experiences together to bring the Rue des Martyrs to life.  From Notre Dame de Lorette at the foot to Sacre Coeur beyond the top, here are a few images of that most interesting Parisian Street.
